Welcome to Nýheimar

Nýheimar Knowledge Center warmly welcomes all university students to Nýheimar. Whether studying on-campus or remotely, in Iceland or from abroad, for both short and long stays in Nýheimar.

Encouraging Learning Environment

The center emphasizes creating a motivating learning environment where students can be part of an academic community and pursue their studies on their own terms in their hometown.

Access and Facilities

University students that are using the services and facilities at Nýheimar have access to study spaces, locked cabinets, a kitchen, a break room, the FAS cafeteria, internet, and meeting facilities in consultation with the project manager. Students sign an agreement with the center, but the facilities are available to them free of charge during Nýheimar’s opening hours. For those who wish to use the space outside of opening hours, it is possible to obtain a key by paying a 5,000 ISK deposit, which is refunded at the end of the agreement.

Collaboration with Hornafjörður Cultural Center

The library at the Hornafjörður Cultural Center works closely with students. Everyone can obtain a library card and receive general library assistance, including help with reference searches, interlibrary loans, printing, and more.

Diverse Student Group

Students who have utilized the center’s facilities and services come from most universities in the country, as well as from international schools. All university students are welcome at Nýheimar and are encouraged to make use of the facilities.

Opening Hours

During the winter, Nýheimar is open Monday to Thursday from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Fridays from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and Saturdays from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
